Mammoth Cave is one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD and is located 1 hour 45 minutes (85.6 miles) from Eagles Haven. Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system known in the world. There are more than 400 miles of surveyed passageways. The history of this natural wonder is incredible, and tours are provided by the National Park Service. Some notable features of the cave such as Grand Avenue, Frozen Niagara & Fat Man’s Misery can be seen on lighted tours ranging from 1 to 6 hours in length. Two tours lit only by visitor-carried paraffin lamps are popular alternatives to electric-lit routes. Several “wild” tours venture away from the developed parts of the cave into muddy crawls and dusty tunnels. Over 90 miles of above-ground hiking, biking and horse-riding trails as well as picnicking will make a wonderful day trip.

This scenic Tennessee State Park is located in Pall Mall, Tennessee and is a 30-minute drive (21.1 miles) from Eagles Haven. This park pays tribute to one of the most decorated soldiers of World War I. The park includes a visitor’s center modeled after York’s general store, his two-story house, a gristmill, the York Bible School and various picnic facilities. The York Farm was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. The site also includes a church and the burial site for Sergeant York and his wife, Gracie. There is also a driving tour and a hiking trail.
This historic site is owned by the State of Tennessee and is located 20 minutes from Eagles Haven (17.5 miles) in Byrdstown, TN. Cordell Hull was an American politician known as the longest serving U. S. Secretary of State, holding the position for 11 years during World War II. Hull received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 for his role in establishing the United Nations and has been referred to as the “Father of the United Nations.” The park consists of Cordell Hull’s original log cabin birthplace and an exhibition building housing documents and artifacts, including the Nobel Peace Prize for Peace Medal. His mother’s family, the Riley-Wood family were granted 200 acres of land in Pickett County, TN following the Revolutionary War and the land remains in the family today. The Riley-Wood family has the distinction by the Daughters of the American Revolution of having the most documented ancestors to have fought in the Revolutionary War. The State Park also encompasses the Bunkum Cave Trail with a mouth of 100 feet wide and 30 feet high which is bisected by a small stream. Bunkum Cave has been a delight to generations of adventuresome local explorers.
